The guys at Zingler Farms are doing something cool this growing season — and we all get to enjoy the results!

Mike and Jimmy Zingler, a father-son duo, are chronicling the growth of a single SweeTango apple at their orchard, a rolling expanse of 580 acres not far from the shores of Lake Ontario in Kendall, N.Y.

They’re taking a photo of the apple each week and sharing the picture on the Zingler Farms Facebook page.

Here’s the sequence so far, starting in early June.

Week 2: Our apple has grown and colored quite significantly in just one week.

Week 3: Seeing some red

Week 4: The apple’s skin actually has less of a red hue this week. Environmental stimuli are most likely the cause.

Week 5: Sadly, the Sweetango we were watching dropped from the tree. R.I.P., little guy. Here’s a very similar replacement.
