Ann Laatsch of Wisconsin was happy to pick up a free box of SweeTangos in Milwaukee. She was one of two winners of our First Bite giveaway, which gave apple lovers a crack at some of the first SweeTangos harvested this season.

Apple grower Steve Wood from Wood Orchard in Door County, Wis., delivered the prize. He drove to a Sendik’s Food Market in Milwaukee to give Laatsch apples from his orchard.

Laatsch said she’s been a SweeTango fan ever since her mom gave her a bag from Wood Orchard.

« I couldn’t get over how delicious they were, » she said. « They were sweet, juicy, and crisp — which is so hard to find. I hate being disappointed by a mealy apple. »

Laatsch said she was thrilled to win the First Bite prize.

« When I learned that I had won, I was delighted — not just because I seem to enter contests and drawings all the time and never win, but more importantly, because I’m guaranteed to get some apples this year! »
