Skillet Caramel Apple Crisp

Author: Kim Beaulieu at Cravings of a Lunatic

Ingredients:

For the Filling:
6 SweeTango apples, peeled and sliced
¼ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
20 Kraft (or any individually wrapped) caramels

For the Topping:
1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
¼ cup granulated sugar
¼ cup brown sugar
1 cup quick rolled oats
¼ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
¾ cup butter, melted

Optional for Serving:
Vanilla ice cream
Caramel sauce

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Coat the inside of your cast iron skillet with non-stick spray or butter. Set aside.

For the Filling:
In a large bowl, combine apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Stir well to coat apple slices evenly. Transfer mixture to oiled skillet. Place unwrapped caramels randomly over top of apple mixture.

For the Topping:
In another large bowl, combine flour, granulated sugar, brown sugar, oats, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Stir to combine. Add melted butter and stir well. Spoon mixture over apple-caramel mixture in skillet. Smooth topping with spoon.

Place skillet in preheated 350 degrees F oven and bake for approximately 40 – 45 minutes. Remove from oven when top is golden brown and apples start to bubble up around the edges of the pan.

You can serve caramel apple crisp when it’s warm, room temperature or cold. I highly recommend serving it topped with a good quality vanilla ice cream and drizzled with caramel sauce.

Enjoy with a big old SweeTango loving smile!

Notes:
You can increase or decrease butter depending on how you like your topping. ½ cup of butter will result in a drier topping. 1 cup of butter will result in a moist topping.

You can also increase or decrease sugar content, depending on your dietary needs.
