SweeTangoLAKE CITY, Minn. (September 2013) — The season for this fall’s best apple is tantalizingly short.

That’s why the growers behind the amazing SweeTango are teaming with top chefs Vinny Dotolo and Jon Shook to make the most of this year’s “Short & SweeTango Season.”

Apple lovers can enter a contest to win a free trip to Los Angeles, where the lucky winner and a guest will dine at Dotolo and Shook’s acclaimed restaurant, Animal.

Fans also can visit SweeTango.com to check out exclusive new recipes created by Dotolo and Shook to showcase SweeTango apples. The recipes will be available for a limited time.

“SweeTango apples are a revelation,” Dotolo said. “This apple offers great flavor – a hint of spice and a touch of citrus, with a lovely sweet finish. And no other apple compares to the crisp, juicy texture of SweeTango.”

SweeTango is a seasonal variety that’s been earning raves from apple lovers for its superior taste and texture. The apple features crisp citrus notes and a lively touch of spice that complement a sweet honey finish.

SweeTango apples are available now throughout the United States and will be arriving soon in Canada. Supplies should last into November, but once they’re gone, the apples won’t be back until next fall.

“We’re harvesting a great crop this year,” said Tim Byrne, president of Next Big Thing. “We’ve got some of the best growers in the world producing SweeTango, and they’ve done a wonderful job delivering top-quality fruit to our customers.”

Excitement over the arrival of SweeTango season is another sign of the apple’s growing popularity. The variety first hit store shelves in limited quantities in 2009, and has since grown to achieve distribution across the U.S. and eastern Canada.

SweeTango has become a highlight of fall. Fans rave SweeTango is the “best apple ever!” and “My new favorite!”

SweeTango, bred at the University of Minnesota, is a cross between the Honeycrisp and Zestar! varieties. SweeTango is grown and marketed by Next Big Thing, a Growers’ Cooperative. The organization includes more than 40 orchards in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Washington State, New York State and Nova Scotia, Canada.
